Dizziness Can Be a Symptom of Heart Disease

Dizziness can be caused by several factors. Certain medications, for instance, trigger dizziness. Other serious causes of dizziness also include anemia, hypoglycemia and a rapid drop in blood pressure. Stress and chronic lack of sleep also cause dizziness.

But did you know that dizziness can also be a symptom of certain heart diseases? This can be accompanied with the sensation of being lightheaded — fainting and feeling as if the room is spinning. Generally, dizziness is not a life-threatening or serious condition and can be remedied easily. However, if the dizziness relates to a heart condition, it can be a serious problem.

Dizziness is a symptom for these following heart conditions. If you have experienced frequent or recurring dizziness over the past few months, have yourself checked by a physician. Don’t take the matter lightly. Seek professional help.

Vascular Vertigo: When blood supply throughout the body is reduced, it can cause vertigo and dizziness. This is usually experienced by people who have a history of high blood pressure, heart attack or stroke.

Arteriosclerosis: Narrowing of the arteries can result in a diminished circulation of blood. As a result, it can cause dizziness as well as breathlessness.

Angina Pectoris: This heart condition is manifested by dizziness and severe chest pains due to insufficient supply of oxygen to the heart. This is common in men aged 50 and above and in women after menopause.

Arrhythmia: Irregular beating of the heart, usually accompanied by palpitations, chest discomfort, breathlessness and dizziness.

Patient Reviews

I was diagnosed with persistent AFIB several months ago. I found Dr. Norris by a referral from another physician. Dr. Norris scheduled me for a cardiac ablation without delay. He thoroughly explained the procedure, risks and benefits prior to the procedure. Dr. Norris and his staff exhibited exceptional professionalism and interest in resolving my AFIB. One month post-op I am rhythm and feel great. Thank you Dr. Norris and staff. I truly feel like I have my life back again.
